Nestled in the heart of Greenfield, Saddleworth, Boarshurst Band Club stands as a proud symbol of the area's rich brass banding tradition. The club is the home of Boarshurst Silver Band, an organisation whose roots stretch back to 1849, when the band was first formed at Boarshurst School. This makes it one of the oldest established brass bands in the country.

In the early years, band members rehearsed wherever space could be found. Records show meetings taking place in local inns, while rehearsals were held in a loft above stables at Casey Mill and, during the summer months, beneath the railway arches at Arthurs Lane. These humble beginnings reflected the determination and enthusiasm of local musicians who helped establish a brass banding tradition that continues to flourish today.

As the band grew, so did the need for a permanent home. In 1901, land was purchased on Greenbridge Lane and the Boarshurst Brass Band Institute Limited was formed, creating a dedicated base for the band and securing its future within the community.

The modern Boarshurst Band Club opened around 1979, providing the band with a purpose-built home and a welcoming venue for concerts, celebrations and community events. The opening represented a major milestone in the band's history and strengthened its role at the centre of Saddleworth's musical life.

Today, Boarshurst Band Club is far more than a rehearsal venue. It is a vibrant community hub, hosting live music, private functions and the renowned Sunday Brass concert series. These concerts have become a cherished tradition, welcoming bands from across the region and helping to keep live brass music thriving for new generations of performers and audiences alike.
